Our Story
Owners Rob and Mary Kurtz have lived in the Berks/Chester county area their entire lives. "We have put down roots here and are raising our family in this beautiful area." Rob has over 40 years experience in the landscape industry. We are confident that our award winning company will provide you with exquisite landscape design & installation.
The History of Solid Rock
"I started out in my teen years working for my brother at his landscape company. I quickly realized that this was the line of work I wanted to pursue as a career. I worked with him until my wife and I were ready to start a family. I always wanted to have the freedom to put work aside and spend time with my family. I thank my brother for all that he taught me and am forever grateful for how he showed me the ropes and encouraged me to set out on my own. We still team up on certain jobs with his company which is now being run marvelously by my nephew.
I wanted a name that would both bring honor to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and that would tie in with the line of work we do. One early morning I woke up with the hymn, "On Christ the Solid Rock I Stand," in my head and it all clicked! My wife and I began constructing the foundations of Solid Rock Landscaping in 2007. I really do enjoy all that this profession entails. The industry has improved and has grown leaps and bounds from when I first started, and there are so many different spokes on the landscape wheel to explore. It is exciting to follow the progression from such a unique and closely related perspective.
Since our company was founded in 2007, I am thankful to say that we have grown quickly year after year, and have tackled a variety of jobs along the way. In 2022 we celebrated our 15th anniversary of being in business! Depending on the time of year, we have anywhere from 10- 15 employees and are always looking to hire dedicated people as we look to continue to grow our team and serve our clients. We have made sure to not lose the personal touch and attention to detail over the years and strive to build lifelong relationships with our clients. We sure are proud to say that, 'We are large enough to tackle any project, and small enough to care about each one.'"

Community Involvement
I was born and raised in this area. My father taught me many great life lessons from boyhood on. I want to honor his ways and the Christian principles he taught me from a young age. One of the things he stressed was to “give back to the community from where you were raised”. It was a solid principle that served him well throughout the years in his line of work as a newspaper publisher.

Our employees are highly trained and experienced as well. Job Site Superintendent and General Manager, Jesus Torres, and Job Site Foreman, Alejandro Pena, each have over 20 years experience in the landscape trade as well. Our three sons have been working in the family business for 7 years and have the same strong work ethic, attention to detail, & willingness to serve others that has been our trademark since inception.
Each winter we attend events that further update us on the latest trends and practices of the ever changing hardscape industry. We hire only the best installers, as our name and reputation mean everything to us. Our company hosts bi-weekly training sessions to ensure our foremen are educated in all necessary areas for their work.
